Job title: Director
When did you join Morrison Design? 2004.
How did you get into architecture? By accident really! I stumbled across a job as a junior draughtsman at Tarmac Topfloor working on concrete planks. It was my first introduction into the construction industry, dealing with architects and engineers drawings which I found fascinating. When I finished my college studies, I saw a job advert for an Architectural Technician at Morrison Design and the rest, as they say, is history.
What are you currently working on? Fischer Farms Vertical Farming, Rolls Royce, University of Derby performance analysis suite and we’ve just completed the Point A Hotel in Dublin.
Which project are you most proud of? The Rolls Royce regeneration– it was a huge project which took 13 years to complete so there was a lot of blood, sweat and tears put into it!
What do you love most about your job? Every day is different. One day I could be working on a small refurbishment, the next on a huge project which will last a few years. I also love that we are involved from those initial discussions right the way through to handing the project over, I get a real sense of satisfaction from that as we really live the journey with the client.
What are your ambitions for Morrison Design? We want to grow the business – but however big we grow we will always have our values at our core. We’ll never compromise on the level of service we provide or the pride we take in our work. We will continue to nurture the culture we’ve created here so we’re a practice that people choose to come to work.
Why should clients choose to work with Morrison Design? We have such a high level of service from every member of our team – the pride in our work and dedication from our team blow me away. Each client receives the same service from us, from the smaller projects right up to those £50m+ jobs. Every scheme is led by a director who is always visible to the client and actively involved in the project – we’re always on the other end of the phone and regularly visit the sites. We have a broad depth of experience across different sectors but marry that with a fresh outlook which we believe is an ideal combination.
And just for fun…
Favourite building: The Sydney Opera House – it evokes some wonderful memories for me
Favourite food: Pasta
Favourite brand: Aston Martin – the blend of history and future technology is sublime
Something you dislike: Cucumber – why do they keep putting it in tuna mayo sandwiches?!
