Morrison Design are proud to unveil the transformation of Riverside Chambers into a new registry office for Derby.
Morrison Design undertook architectural and Principal Designer (BRPD) services to reimagine the ground floor offices into a new registry office. The refurbishment includes large and small ceremony rooms with associated public facilities and improved accessibility.

Located in Derby city centre, the Grade II listed building has a rich history, having once served as a magistrate’s court, police station and offices.
Morrison Design’s conservation and technical response to the brief was to delicately modernise the existing building to meet current building regulations with a sympathetic approach to retain all remaining original historic features.

This project also carries a special connection for Morrison Design. Our founder, Sam Morrison, worked on the original Riverside Chambers building, which opened in 1934, whilst working alongside architect Charles Herbert Aslin – who later became President of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) in 1954.

“We are extremely proud to have worked and contributed on revitalising a new lease of life into Riverside Chamber’s, a well-known and recognised public building within the heart of the city. It was important for us to respect the building’s heritage whilst creating a welcoming and accessible space for the community to celebrate one of life’s more momentous occasions.”
