John has been eating up the miles as part of his 2,024 mile challenge for Alzheimer’s Society. As well as a trip to the velodrome, he also managed to cycle in the Blue Mountains in North Carolina this month.
John said: “This month got off to a great start as my wife, Gillian paid for a trip to the Derby Velodrome as a birthday present. This turned into quite the experience as each end of the oval is much steeper than you think. Well worth a trip if you’re into cycling.
Midway through the month and my enthusiasm for this challenge took a hit as I had my first accident on the bike. Fortunately, there’s no lasting damage to me or the bike but it left me with a few miles to catch up on. Thankfully, as we neared the end of the month, I went away with the family, borrowed a bike, and an exercise bike at the gym and caught up on those miles with the most stunning views and blue skies.”
I’m hoping to complete this challenge on the 20th December which is 7 weeks away and I’ve got 320 miles to go.
