We’re really pleased to share that our University of Derby Bioscience Superlab has been shortlisted in two categories at the CN Life Sciences, Tech and Research Clusters Awards 2026: Best New Campus Development and Best Retrofit & Reuse Building.

The project transformed former office space into a flexible, high-performance teaching and research environment for bioscience.
One of the key ideas was creating three teaching zones within a single open lab enabling multiple classes to be run at the same time – supported by integrated AV without compromising the learning experience.

The scheme also makes the most of the existing building – reducing embodied carbon while creating a space designed to adapt over time. It’s a great example of how existing spaces can be rethought to support modern STEM education.

A huge thank you to the full team who brought this project to life: Seddon (Principal Contractor), CPW & JPR Group (M&E), Simply Labs (Furniture), Rodgers Leask (Structural Engineer), AtkinsRéalis (Project Management) and Hewshott (Audio & Acoustics).
Congratulations to all the finalists!
