We’re really pleased to share that the University of Derby Bioscience Superlab has been shortlisted in two categories at the Constructing Excellence East Midlands Awards: Retrofit Project of the Year and Building Project of the Year.

A spacious, modern classroom with white tables, blue chairs, and multiple screens, designed for collaborative learning.

It’s fantastic to see the project recognised again so soon after its double shortlist at the CN Life Sciences, Tech and Research Clusters Awards 2026 – a great run of recognition for the team and everyone involved.

The Superlab transforms former office space into a flexible, future-focused bioscience teaching and research environment, showing how existing buildings can be reimagined to better support modern learning.

A modern laboratory featuring blue chairs, workbenches with various scientific equipment, and shelves of organised supplies.

It’s brilliant to see the project shortlisted across both retrofit and new build categories, reflecting the quality of the space and the collaboration behind it.

A modern laboratory featuring multiple workstations with blue chairs, storage cabinets, and bright lighting.

A big thank you again to the full team who brought this project to life: Seddon (Principal Contractor), CPW & JPR Group (M&E), Simply Labs (Furniture), Rodgers Leask (Structural Engineer), AtkinsRéalis (Project Management) and Hewshott (Audio & Acoustics).
