DESIGN BRIEF

Located atop of the DoubleTree by Hilton, Tower of London, Morrison Design was given the brief to create a city centre roof-top bar like no other. As lead architect and project manager, our client was keen to maximise the functionality of a tired existing roof-top bar and transform it into London’s wildest sky-high destination.

RESPONSE TO DESIGN BRIEF

Due to the complexity of the project, with the bar being located on the 12th floor of a very busy, functioning hotel in the centre of London and needing to adhere to planning restraints of the local authority, we were contracted to a tight contract programme of design and build works, meaning the new bar had to be open within just 3 months of scheme approval from the client.

OUTCOME

Originally called the Sky-Lounge; these open-air terraces were able to be used during the summer and were now looking very tired and in desperate need of a refurbishment.

Throughout the redevelopment, it was clear that there wasn’t much we needed to do to enhance the view from the Savage Garden Bar terraces, which included panoramic landscapes of London’s most iconic landmarks, however it was clear that the interior design was something that needed to be completely overhauled.

Working in collaboration with designers ‘Grapes Design’ the interior was designed to be spacious and modern with a dark and sultry twist, complete with impressive artistic touches.

Following our re-design, the main bar now has an indoor dining area which provides a link between both the north and south terraces to create a 432 cover capacity restaurant offering cuisine ranging from sharing plates through to substantial mains and feasting boards.

We also completely redesigned The north ‘Wildside Terrace’, initially sponsored by Jagermeister, to incorporate a fully-glazed space, featuring a retractable canopy, which now enables the space to be used all-year-round whilst still embracing the panoramic views of the London skyline including The Shard, Tower of London, The Gherkin and St. Paul’s Cathedral.
