Job title: Trainee Architectural Technologist
When did you join Morrison Design? 2021.
How did you get into architecture? I studied Graphic Design at school and we did some architectural based projects within that which I really enjoyed. I loved playing The Sims computer game growing up – creating my own spaces was one of the bits I was really drawn to. I’m excited to be able to walk into a building knowing that I had a hand in designing it – that’s pretty cool to me.
What are you currently working on? I’m collaborating with a few of the Morrison Design team on the Westbury Hotel project in Mayfair, London. It’s pretty immense – it’s a privilege to be involved.
Which project are you most proud of? I’m so honoured to be part of such a huge and complex project like the Westbury Hotel, I’m really proud to be part of the team. I’m so excited at the prospect of seeing the project through to completion and being able to stand inside it one day.
What’s it like working as a female in architecture? At university I’m one of three on my course of around 15 students, so although it’s definitely male dominated I’ve never felt alone. I’ve always felt like a valued member of the team and have never been treated any differently to my male colleagues. I believe that individuals should have the freedom to pursue what makes them happy, so I’d encourage other females to do the same if they have an interest in architecture.
What do you love most about your job? There’s such a vast amount of project work I get involved in and it’s really varied. Although it’s all on one project there’s so many different aspects to it which keeps me challenged and motivated. I enjoy the interaction I get to have with so many different contractors as well as the team here at Morrison Design.
What’s it like to work at Morrison Design? It’s a really modern work environment – it’s flexible and the directors ensure the work patterns fit with each individual and what feels best for them. The team all know how to encourage each other and I get support from every member of the team. They’re all very open and welcoming and the directors are always approachable.
Why should clients choose to work with Morrison Design? The same reason I chose to! The quality of the work is outstanding and we work with such a high calibre of brands – from Hilton hotels to Rolls Royce and everyone in between. We consistently delivery high quality service to our clients.
And just for fun…
Favourite building: The Scottish Parliament Building – I love that it’s so modern and unique when you expect a parliamentary building to be quite traditional. The fact that they’ve followed the design through to the interior as well which I just love.
Favourite food: I love Greek food
Favourite brand: Kiehl’s skincare – their sustainability policy is fantastic and the products actually work!
Something you dislike: Quorn! I’m allergic so I have good reason.
