2024 miles: February update

Month two of John’s 2040 miles challenge is complete and he’s now over halfway towards his £1,000 fundraising target.

“An old school friend of mine came to visit recently. She had already made her own donation towards this good cause but then she handed to me another one. This one had come from her father after she had told him about my challenge and the generosity of this donation left me a bit speechless – so a huge thank you to them and that has certainly spurred me on.”

John Robson, Senior Architectural Technician

John is riding 2024 miles during 2024 in aid of our charity of the year, Alzheimer’s Society. He’s making fantastic progress but the conditions have made February another challenging month.

“The weather continues to make this challenge even more difficult, and this month saw my first puncture of the year too – just what you want on your morning commute.”

Looking forward to the Spring months, John has made a nostalgic purchase which he hopes to complete some miles on.

“Back in the late 80s, my dad bought for me an old Raleigh Chopper. It’s a distant memory now as I would have been about 7 or 8 at the time but you can’t forget those chopper handlebars and the signature seat – it was a wheelie machine. I wish I could find a photo of it now but sadly it’s just that old memory. So I’ve found a rusty one on Ebay and I’ve begun the restoration. With a bit of luck, I’ll get to do some of this challenge on an old Raleigh Chopper.”
